"What a dump." Wiseguy's expression was an inscrutable mask that any trueblood would be proud of.

"You're not seeing the big picture here." Leda said enthusiastically. "You see a run down, abandoned office building. But you know what I see?"

"The future!" Mooner exclaimed dramatically. He grinned at Leda. God how she loved that grin.

"I see a home. I see a place where we can be an example to the Bloods, and the Pack. That Elves, humans, and halfies can get along just fine."

"What, we're not example enough?" Wiseguy asked. Her black eye would seem to answer her question.

"We're too small." Mooner said, seeing what Leda was getting at. "We three Musketeers are an oddity at best. An embarrassment or an abomination at worst."

"But if we fix this place up, and recruit others, we can show Bordertown what could be. I know there's more people who think we don't have to be enemies. We just need to find them. And this could be..."

"Home?" Wiseguy finished. She sighed. But even she, in the face of the enthusiasm of her brother and her best friend could not hold out. "Alright let's see the inside."

Mooner slung his arm around Leda's shoulders as they headed up the steps. "I do have to ask though. Why this place?"

Something tickled at the back of Leda's brain, but she ignored it. "I dunno Moe."

There were many reasons why Leda drank Peca. Addiction was only one of them. Right now though, she was only drinking fruit juice. These blends they sold out in the world were great. This memory wasn't one that made her want to drown it. But in case it led to others that did, she had a bottle in the pocket of her jacket.

"I can't believe I forgot about this," Turtle added with a chuckle. "I'm getting so old."

Leda snickered. "Oh humans don't get old." Not by elf standards anyway. "And here I thought I'd discovered something. So much for forging new territory."

"Yeah," Turtle grinned. "You'll probably have to wait for the island to find another island to join onto before that's an option."

"Okay what?"

Turtle grinned a little. "The island you know now actually used to be a lot smaller. Anything past Galactica Drive was pretty much not there before the summer of 2008."

"What happened?"

"Well, you see, Leda," Turtle explained, "when one island and another island like each other very much..."

Leda giggled. "They put on some romantic music and light some candles?"

"Sometimes, I think it's just best to avoid details in situations like that," Turtle admitted. "Basically, the island got a huge case of wanderlust that summer, went drifting all over the planet, and finally came back and mounted this other island. We actually used to be off the coast of Virginia."

"Oh Man why couldn't my parents have sent me here then?" Oh yeah because they didn't know where she was.

"Got to admit," Turtle said with a grin, "it was pretty sweet. All expenses covered vacation."

Leda had never had the urge to travel before. But now that she'd gotten a taste of it...

"Where'd you go?"

"Umm, let's see if I can remember....Greece, France, Madagascar, Australia....Antarctica....I might be forgetting something, but that's all I've got at the top of my head."

"Oh God I'm so jealous. I'd never left Bordertown till I came here. Never even had the urge to till now."

"I never left Westingtown before coming here, either," Turtle said with a grin. "Best decision ever."

"I can't tell if I hope my parents find out about what this place is really like or not. I think they sent me here hoping to cure me of my 'fascination with humans'."

There was a pause.

"What, in one of those, 'once we put her among real humans, she'll stop that whole human nonsense' sort of things?"

"Yeah pretty much. And if you guys reacted the way the humans on the train getting here did, it might even have worked."

"Come on!" Turtle said, "humans are awesome. Some of them, anyway."

"Hey you don't have to tell me. I've always been a big believer in Elves, Humans and Halfies getting along. My parents, not so much."

"Halfies?" Turtle asked, head tilting.

"Half human, half elf. My two best friends in Junior High were Halfies."

"That's what I thought," Turtle nodded. "So, see? At least you're not alone; Halfies mean that a lot of other elves must like humans, too."

"Oh I should have used that argument back when I was starting the pups." she grinned.

"Pups as in little dogs, or do we mean pups in more colloquial form?"
