Leda had made a few concessions to the whole 'Queen' thing at Leander's insistence. She had agreed to wear the crown when she was 'on duty', after it had been padded. And while she had done away with the whole 'commoners could only petition the queen on holidays' bullshit, she had agreed to deal with nobles and commoners on separate days.
She did however refuse to call it 'holding court'. Rather she referred to these meetings as her office hours. Accordingly, she had an office. And then her friends had proceeded to shower her with gag gifts. Like the 'World's Greatest Aunt' coffee mug that sat on her desk. Also Strider had scrawled 'Proclomation Pad' across the top of her stack of blank papers.
It was during these office hours, that both Strider and Leander came in, looking concerned.
"Shit what happened now?" she groaned.
"We've um, captured a possible spy." Strider said. "He insisted he be allowed to speak to you in person."
"Uh huh." Leda said. "Anyone I know?"
"Oh, yes." Leander told her. "As he put it, you've left quite a mark on him."
Leda chewed her bottom lip for a moment. "All right, let's hear what he's got to say."
Then two guards brought a white haired young Elf into her office. He was handsome, and dignified, even in his current state of captivity. There was an odd scar on one ear. He gave Leda a smirk when he entered, then got to one knee, and bowed his head.
"My Queen," intoned Stormy Waves Upon a Rocky Shore, "I have come to you to renounce my uncle Lord Corwyn, and swear my undying and eternal loyalty to you."
Leda stared. Her mouth hung open. She closed it, then opened it again, then closed it. Finally, she gave voice to the thoughts in her head.
"What the fuck?!"
Stormy Waves rose. His hands were still in manacles in front of him. "That was, actually, word for word exactly what I expected you to say My Queen."
"Don't call me that, and I'll say it again. What the fuck?"
"Let us say that...you made quite an impression on me." He twitched the ear with the scar. A trophy of one of his and his cousin Crystaviel's failed attempts to snatch her when she was Florida. She had bitten him. "Leda I do not expect you for forgive me, but I hope to convince you of my sincerity. I have respected you since you were a child, and when you defeated Corwyn in the council chamber..." As a matter of fact Stormy Waves had had developed a bit of a crush on Leda while romancing her in Bordertown. Then her fighting spirit even as a child had deepened his affection. After her confrontation of his Uncle in the Council Chamber, he was just possibly prepared to call his esteem love.
"I do not like humans." he said. "But I do like you. I like you quite a bit. You have a warrior's heart and I approve of warriors."
"I killed your cousin."
"In fair combat."
Leda eyed him, her eyes narrowed. "Stormy Waves, look behind you at the floor where you came in. What do you see?"
He did so. "I see, a line of red forming a semi circle before the door." he shrugged.
"That is red brick dust. Human magic. No one who means me harm can cross that. It's entirely possible that your life has just been saved by something mortals cooked up. What do you say to that?"
"I still don't like humans." he said stubbornly. "But I do like that dust thing. And pizza. I miss pizza."
