Bordertown Thursday, Fandom Time

On their way back to the city, Wolfboy and Leda had filled each other in on their lives, filling in the gaps.
When it had become known that it was the Wharf Rats who had abducted Florida, Micky and Goldie, Woflboy had called in the cavalry. It had seemed to him that all of Bordertown had shown up to ride to the rescue. A truce had even been called between the Pack and the Truebloods. That bit had given Leda an especially warm fuzzy.
Then he, Milo Chevrolet and others had stormed the warehouse. Leda remembered that part, Wolfboy showing up like her knight in shaggy armor. Milo had come armed with a spell to take ten years from an enemy's life. The belief had been that it would make the target ten years younger.
"But I wasn't even ten yet."
Everyone had thought that she'd been reduced to before conception, gone forever. But it seemed they had misunderstood the spell. Or the Bordertown effect had futzed with it. Either way, Florida had instead been sent ten years into the past.
She told him about growing up, running away, and founding Castle Pup. How she suspected she'd repressed all her past memories because she simply couldn't process them. Especially when she met people she'd known as a child. "And when a kid named Florida started sleeping in the backyard...too much Twilight Zone for me."
WHY DO YOU THINK YOU CAN HANDLE IT NOW? he'd written.
That was when she'd told him about Fandom High. He had a hard time believing that what she'd shown him in the Wild Elves' camp had been real.
ALIENS? REALLY?
"You're a werewolf. Don't judge."
POINT
The first person they contacted when they returned was Milo. He needed to know that no lasting harm had been done. He'd been pretty torn up when he thought he'd killed her. After that it was hard to decide who to contact first. Finally they split up. Wolfboy went to Danceland to let Strider and Sai know what had happened. Leda went to Elsewhere in search of they who had taken care of her as a child after Castle Pup burned down.
There was a lot of boggling, and hugging. Then there was a long conversation between Leda and Strider.
"You remember how I'm an anarchist right?" she said. "Monarchy kind of goes against everything I believe in."
"Unfortunately for you, those who do not wish to desire power, are those best to do so."
Leda buried her face in her hands, laughing and crying at the same time. "Can I have my amnesia back?" she asked.
Finally he convinced her that it was time for her to return home to Faery, and accept her responsibilities. "If you abdicate then the Unseelie will take over. And trust me when I say, that is a thousand times worse than having an Anarchist for a Queen."
That night Goldie made her pancakes and chocolate milk, just like he had when she'd been Florida, and she almost cried again.
They cleared all the junk out of the lower floor of Wolfboy's warehouse, to make room for all the guests. Leda's adopted parents showed up, and turned out to not be quite as bad as Leda had always thought. Either thay'd changed or she'd been wrong about them. Either way, she hugged them, and promised to come visit before she left.
When people started to dance, Leda looked immediately for Wolfboy. He took her in his arms, and neither of them tripped the other as they moved together. She ran her hands through the fur on the top of his head to his neck, then kissed his nose.
"I'll miss you Wolf."
*****
"Ready?" Strider asked. She stood with him and Sai, facing the gate. She'd last come through this when she was four or five, and had spent so much time and energy since avoiding passing through it again. Now she knew it was because she'd been afraid. Afraid of what returning would mean, and afraid of the reasons her parents had fled through it to begin with.
But she had friends to help her, her magic fully restored, and the lessons of Fandom. "No." she said, while nodding resolutely.
She and Wolfboy conducted their contest one final time, each trying to outdo the other with a signed; "No, you have big fun!"
We'll call it a tie.
